School talk

In our social studies unit, we have been studying the concept of community. We reviewed different sorts of community helpers. Today we talked about Daddy working at our small engine shop and Mommy working in the home. The kids then drew pictures of Daddy and Mommy working. Then we talked about what the children were going to be when they grew up. We learned that to be happy we must pray and ask God to show us what He wants us to be. They turned their pages over and drew what they thought God wanted them to be when they grew up. Ethan was adamant that God wanted him to be a firefighter. The proclamation was made with as much excitement and animation as one could imagine. (This is the heart of the whole story) When I asked John what God's will was for him, he just looked up at me timidly and said, God hasn't told me yet. It just melted my heart. He looked so disappointed that he didn't know God's will for him...15 years from now! If only we grown-ups were so keen.

Whosoever therefore shall humble himself as this little child, the same is greatest in the kingdom of heaven. --Matthew 18:4

One other thing worth mentioning is that my mom got the boys a Betta to serve as "classroom pet." They take turns feeding it. Anyway, I'm honestly not too much on fish. But this fish is so great! He has a ton of personality...for a fish, that is. What I love is that you can go up to his bowl and peer into it, he will get so aggressive! He'll go up right to your nose and flare his gills and fins. I always get the biggest laugh out of him.

a male crown-tail Betta, very similar to the one we have.
